The Lost World Of Mr Hardy

The Lost World Of Mr Hardy

The Lost World of Mr Hardy explores a passionate family business and the art of fly fishing, capturing its beauty, its transformation in a globalised world, and the fragile pockets where this heritage survives, or does it?

“A first- class documentary that entertains, teaches and inspires in equal measure. … A joy to watch and essential viewing.”

Jason Hill, Fields Sports Magazine

“Spectacular. A passion for fishing is made plausible and river landscapes dazzle. I defy you to watch with a dry eye.”

Ken Russell, The Times

“The slow-moving, languid style of the documentary suits its subject matter perfectly, and you find yourself transported into another world… the story it tells is universal.”

Making the Film

This was the first film produced by Trufflepig Films (Andrew Heathcote & Heike Bachelier). It was self-funded at a time when self-funding was not yet common, reflecting the filmmakers’ dedication to the story.

Historical Footage

When Jim Hardy of Hardy Brothers mentioned a forgotten box of old film reels in the attic, the filmmakers discovered extraordinary archival footage. After restoration, it revealed remarkable scenes of salmon fishing from the early 20th century, some even in colour, a rare glimpse into a lost world.

Critical Acclaim

The Lost World of Mr Hardy so impressed legendary filmmaker Ken Russell that he wrote a double-page spread about the film in The Times.

DVD Distribution

The filmmakers self-distributed the film, posting off sacks of DVDs from the local village post office in East Sussex.

UK Cinema Screenings

The Lost World of Mr Hardy received a limited cinema release, with well-attended screenings across the UK.

Global Sales & Lasting Interest

The film was picked up by a sales agent and continues to be in high demand, selling in the UK, US, and beyond.
